Adeia's new sales ceiling is its old midpoint
A few licensing deals may move past year-end. A lower cost outlook softens the profit impact as the new CEO keeps the longer-term growth ambition.

Adeia lowered its 2026 revenue forecast by $20 million at both ends, reflecting the possibility that a few licensing deals will be signed after year-end.
The patent-licensing company now expects $375 million to $415 million in annual revenue. In August, it had reaffirmed a $395 million to $435 million range.
Research by Ticker Byline shows that the new ceiling is exactly the midpoint of the old forecast. Reaching the top of the revised range would now deliver what used to be its middle case.
The timing of a few deals matters
Adeia licenses inventions used in digital media and semiconductors. Contract negotiations and the timing of signing can move revenue between reporting periods, making the final stretch of the year particularly important.
During Q3, it signed eight license agreements, including renewals with Charter and TCL and agreements with four new customers. Revenue nevertheless fell to $80.2 million from $96.1 million in Q2 and $87.3 million a year earlier.
The company has not turned away from its longer-term ambition. New Chief Executive Officer Dipti Vachani reaffirmed the $600 million annual revenue goal introduced in August, supported by opportunities in both media and semiconductors.
A lower cost budget cushions the profit cut
Adeia now expects adjusted operating expenses of $176 million to $180 million, down from $184 million to $192 million. The midpoint falls $10 million as the revenue midpoint falls $20 million.
Its annual adjusted EBITDA forecast falls to $201.1 million to $237.1 million from $213.4 million to $245.4 million. That measure excludes interest, taxes, depreciation, amortization, stock compensation and selected transition costs.
Q3 adjusted EBITDA was $36.9 million, versus $50.7 million a year earlier. GAAP net income was $2.3 million, compared with $8.8 million.
A slow cash quarter within a stronger nine months
Operating cash flow was $5.1 million in Q3. Across the first nine months, however, it reached $118.2 million, ahead of $98.1 million a year earlier.
Adeia repaid $6.1 million of term-loan principal during the quarter and ended September with $127.7 million of cash and marketable securities. Outstanding loan principal was $386.5 million.
