Analysis TRIP

Tripadvisor sells TheFork. Its remaining business was already shrinking.

Debt repayment and share repurchases are possible uses of the proceeds. The November 5 update will show more about the sale and the business Tripadvisor is keeping.

Tripadvisor has completed the $700 million sale of TheFork, its European restaurant booking platform, to American Express Travel Related Services Company. The transaction closed November 1, within the end-of-2026 window Tripadvisor had set out in August.

The latest quarter already excluded TheFork

Research by Ticker Byline shows that Tripadvisor had already removed TheFork from its second-quarter financial comparisons when it reported in August. The figures for both 2026 and the comparable 2025 quarter cover the businesses it is keeping.

Revenue from those continuing operations fell 7.2% to $441.9 million in the quarter ended June 30, 2026. Net income declined to $22.8 million from $36.5 million.

Experiences, which includes tours and activities booked through Viator and Tripadvisor, grew sales by 3%. That increase did not offset the decline in Hotels and Other. Tripadvisor’s hotel-related revenue alone fell 23% in the quarter.

What will the sale money do?

The agreed price is $700 million in cash, subject to closing adjustments. Tripadvisor’s June financial report described debt repayment and share repurchases as possible uses of the net proceeds. The closing filing did not announce specific amounts for either.

At June 30, it held $843.2 million in cash and still owed $836 million on a term loan. These figures precede the sale by four months.

TheFork will retain a connection to Tripadvisor during the handover: the companies entered a transition services agreement generally lasting 12 months.

Tripadvisor expects to discuss the transaction during its November 5 earnings call and is due to file financial statements showing the sale’s effects by the same date.

Our Tripadvisor company profile records the completed sale and keeps the continuing-business comparisons separate from the restaurant platform.
