Ralliant beats its targets. Tariff refunds don't explain it all.

Demand for sensors and testing equipment supports a broad upgrade. Tariff refunds help profit, while cash generation trails the prior year.

Ralliant lifted its annual profit forecast after a quarter that exceeded its sales and margin targets. Demand for grid equipment, defense products and electronics-testing tools is giving the recently separated company a stronger operating base.

Research by Ticker Byline shows that the precision-technology supplier earned 93 cents a share on an adjusted basis, compared with the 72-to-78-cent range it set out in July. Revenue of $620.1 million also exceeded its earlier $570 million to $590 million forecast.

The improvement reaches both businesses

Organic sales grew 17.2%. The quarterly report breaks that increase into 13.4% from volume and 3.8% from pricing. Organic growth removes currency and acquisition effects.

Sensors and Safety Systems benefited from defense programs and grid modernization. Test and Measurement grew with demand for electronics and computing infrastructure, although semiconductor-related sales declined against a large project delivered a year earlier.

The adjusted EBITDA margin reached 23.5%, above July's 20.5% to 21.5% forecast. This profit measure excludes interest, taxes, depreciation, amortization and specified separation and restructuring costs.

A larger annual earnings range

Ralliant now forecasts annual adjusted earnings of $3.10 to $3.16 a share, up from $2.76 to $2.90. Its sales range rises to $2.34 billion to $2.36 billion from $2.25 billion to $2.30 billion.

Tariff refunds contribute to the improvement. The current outlook includes $7 million of cost benefits in the third quarter and $5 million in the fourth quarter. Most of the quarterly benefit went to Sensors and Safety Systems; Test and Measurement received little, yet its margin also improved. Management cited higher volumes, pricing and productivity.

The company now expects its productivity program to save $16 million to $18 million this year, compared with $10 million to $12 million previously. It reported $5 million of savings in the third quarter.

The cash comparison is less strong

Reported net income rose to $86.1 million from $39.9 million. The prior-year comparison includes separation-related costs. The company's adjusted historical comparisons also use a further normalization for the cost of operating independently from Fortive.

Quarterly operating cash flow fell to $111.3 million from $138.6 million. After capital spending, free cash flow was $101.9 million, versus $126.6 million. Nine-month operating cash flow also declined as working capital and payment timing absorbed cash.

The Ralliant profile follows its operating history, borrowing and capital returns alongside the higher forecast.
