Cytokinetics, Incorporated is a specialty cardiovascular biopharmaceutical company. Its first commercial medicine is MYQORZO, the brand name for aficamten. It also develops other medicines targeting muscle function. The company trades on Nasdaq under CYTK and has a December 31 fiscal year-end.

Quarterly financial results

Third quarters ended September 30; dollars in millions except per-share amounts. Losses are shown in parentheses.
Measure20252026
Total revenue$1.936$47.557
MYQORZO net product revenue$0$44.507
Research and development expense$97.297$99.285
Selling, general and administrative expense$69.458$113.144
Operating loss($166.755)($167.088)
Net loss($306.178)($190.069)
Basic and diluted loss per share($2.55)($1.37)

Third-quarter product sales rose 75.68% from Q2's $25.334 million. The U.S. contributed $43.1 million, compared with $23.0 million in Q2. Germany contributed $1.4 million, compared with $2.3 million, which included initial distributor inventory. Nearly 1,100 providers had prescribed MYQORZO and more than 2,800 patients had received it by September 30; these are cumulative rollout measures.

The year-over-year net-loss improvement largely reflects the absence of a $121.249 million debt-conversion charge in Q3 2025. Operating loss was nearly unchanged from that quarter, although it narrowed from Q2 2026's $179.172 million. Selling and administrative spending rose as the company built its commercial operation.

Product cost of goods sold was a $454,000 credit, including a $1 million vendor credit. Pre-approval inventory costs were already expensed as research and development, which lowers the cost recognized as that inventory is sold. The latest product margin therefore does not represent the full ongoing cost of future supply.

Outlook and commercial milestones

The 2026 combined research, development, selling and administrative expense forecast remains $860 million to $890 million, unchanged from August.

MYQORZO received U.S. approval in December 2025 and launched there in early 2026. Germany launched in June 2026. U.K. authorization was received in July, with launch expected in Q4. Canada authorized the medicine in October. These approvals concern adults with symptomatic obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

The company plans a supplemental U.S. application for non-obstructive HCM in Q4 2026, a timetable already disclosed in August, and a European Type II variation in early 2027. These filings seek an additional use. The ongoing COMET-HF trial of omecamtiv mecarbil is now expected to continue enrollment through 2027, compared with through 2026 in August.

Cash, financing and obligations

Cash and investments totaled $1.584 billion at September 30: $203.433 million of cash, $926.588 million of short-term investments and $453.631 million of long-term investments. June cash and investments totaled $1.704 billion. Operating cash use was $429.318 million in the first nine months, compared with $367.358 million, with a further $10.964 million spent on property and equipment.

The completed May 2026 equity offering raised $760.148 million net. The remaining 2026 convertible notes were fully converted into shares in Q2. At September 30, $140.5 million face value of 2027 notes remained, due July 1, 2027, alongside $750 million face value of 2031 notes. The balance-sheet debt lines, including current amounts and term loans, totaled $1.152 billion at carrying value.

A further $175 million Royalty Pharma loan tranche was undrawn and drawable at the company's discretion through December 19, 2026. Cytokinetics says it expects to draw it unless more favorable financing meets its needs. This amount is separate from September cash and investments.

Royalty financing also creates obligations tied to product sales. The balance sheet separately reports $579.564 million of noncurrent revenue-participation liabilities, $136.2 million of RPI transaction liabilities measured at fair value and $31.3 million of derivative liabilities. Those amounts are separate from the conventional debt carrying-value total above. The aficamten royalty agreement entitles Royalty Pharma to 4.5% of annual worldwide net sales up to $5 billion and 1% above that level.

Partnerships and developments to follow

Sanofi holds licensed development and commercialization rights for aficamten in China and Taiwan. Bayer holds licensed rights in Japan and is conducting CAMELLIA-HCM with Cytokinetics. These arrangements provide milestone and royalty opportunities, while the company builds its own commercial presence in the U.S. and Europe.

The main developments are prescribing and patient uptake, conversion into product revenue, international launches, spending and cash use, financing choices, and the progress of applications and ongoing clinical programs.
