Assurant, Inc. (NYSE: AIZ) provides protection products and related services through partnerships with mobile carriers, retailers, financial institutions, vehicle dealers and other businesses. Global Lifestyle contains Connected Living and Global Automotive. Global Housing includes homeowners insurance, including lender-placed policies, renters insurance and related products.

Connected Living combines device protection with trade-ins, upgrades, repairs, logistics and other services. Growth in serviced devices therefore means more than insurance claim volume.

The latest earnings mix

Three months ended September 30. Dollars in millions, except per-share figures.
Measure20262025
GAAP net income$275.2$265.6
GAAP diluted EPS$5.49$5.17
Consolidated adjusted EBITDA$464.4$431.5
Adjusted EBITDA excluding reportable catastrophes$484.1$433.5
Adjusted EPS excluding reportable catastrophes$6.46$5.76
Global Lifestyle adjusted EBITDA$236.9$206.8
Global Housing adjusted EBITDA$268.3$256.3

Consolidated adjusted EBITDA removes interest expense, taxes, depreciation, purchased-intangible amortization and selected investment and other items. The segment measure bearing that name is also used in the company's GAAP segment reporting. Adjusted EPS uses separately reconciled exclusions and tax effects. Share repurchases helped per-share growth exceed net-income growth.

Connected Living's quarterly adjusted EBITDA rose 23% to $157.5 million. Global Automotive reached $79.4 million, only slightly above the year-earlier $79.0 million, which included a $6.1 million nonrecurring benefit.

Assurant serviced 7.6 million mobile devices, versus 4.8 million. Its stock of protected devices rose to 69.2 million from 65.5 million. The first measure counts services during the quarter; the second counts protection and upgrade contracts in force at quarter-end.

What the reserve comparison shows

Housing's favorable revisions to earlier non-catastrophe claim estimates totaled $20.6 million, down from $28.5 million. These prior-period benefits include revisions for earlier quarters of the current year as well as earlier years.

Adding back reportable catastrophe costs and removing those reserve benefits from both quarters gives $267.4 million of Housing adjusted profit, versus $230.7 million. Lower catastrophe-reinsurance premiums and fewer ordinary claims supported the improvement.

Reportable catastrophes are individual events producing more than $5 million of pretax losses after reinsurance and client profit sharing, including related premiums. Excluding them does not remove every weather-related claim.

Forecasts through the year

February's original outlook called for consolidated adjusted EBITDA excluding reportable catastrophes to match 2025. August raised expected growth to mid single digits. November raised it to approximately 10%. The corresponding adjusted EPS growth expectation moved to low double digits.

Lifestyle's adjusted EBITDA growth expectation progressed from high single digits in February to low double digits in August and mid-to-high teens in November. Housing's forecast moved from a decline to modest growth and then mid-single-digit growth, excluding reportable catastrophes.

November includes $60.7 million of prior-year reserve benefit already earned in nine months and assumes none in the fourth quarter. August included $41.9 million earned in the first half and assumed none thereafter. The newly realized $18.8 million contributes to the stronger outlook. Corporate and Other's expected annual adjusted EBITDA loss also increased to about $150 million from August's $145 million.

Parent funds and shareholder returns

Holding-company liquidity was $954 million at September 30. It consists of parent cash and liquid marketable securities not reserved for a specific purpose. The company's $225 million minimum is an internal target. Consolidated cash of $1.778 billion covers a broader group and is a different funding measure.

Subsidiaries remitted $226.4 million to the parent in the quarter, net of capital infusions. Quarterly repurchase cost was $75.0 million and common dividends paid were $43.6 million. November's full-year repurchase expectation is $350 million; August already targeted the upper end of $300 million–$350 million.

October repurchases cost $30 million, leaving $469 million of unused authority at October 31. Consolidated debt was $2.209 billion at September, close to year-end. The next results will test continued device growth, Housing's claims experience and conversion of subsidiary earnings into parent remittances.
