Krystal has money for buybacks. Several drug milestones need more time.
Strong VYJUVEK sales support a $400 million repurchase plan. Earlier promises show how the development timetable has changed.

Research by Ticker Byline shows that three Krystal Biotech drug development milestones previously expected in late 2026 have moved into 2027. The changes appear in a comparison of its August and November business updates, alongside a newly announced plan to repurchase up to $400 million of stock.
The company has money to work with. Third-quarter 2026 VYJUVEK sales rose 30% to $127.3 million, and Krystal ended September with about $1.2 billion in cash and investments. The question for its next phase of growth is how long the programs behind that profitable medicine will take to advance.
What changed since August?
| Development milestone | August 3 outlook | November 2 update |
|---|---|---|
| KB803 eye study results | Q4 2026 | Shortly after the final visit in February 2027 |
| KB801 eye study enrollment | By the end of 2026 | 2027 |
| KB407 lung study interim results | By the end of 2026 | First half of 2027 |
Krystal says it added patients to the KB803 study to replace withdrawals that were unrelated to safety. In the KB801 study, enrollment has been slower than expected because of narrow eligibility rules and the difficulty of recruiting for a placebo-controlled study when an approved treatment is already available.
Krystal still expects interim results from its KB111 skin study before the end of 2026.
Commercial expansion is taking longer in one market too. In August, Krystal expected to launch VYJUVEK in Italy later in 2026. Pricing negotiations are now complete, but the expected launch is early 2027.
The existing medicine is producing profit
VYJUVEK treats a rare inherited skin-blistering condition. Its growth lifted third-quarter operating income to $71.1 million from $41.4 million a year earlier, an increase of approximately 72%.
Net income moved in the other direction, falling to $63.1 million from $79.4 million. Tax accounting explains the split: last year’s quarter included a tax benefit, while this year’s quarter carried a tax expense. The lower bottom line obscures the stronger operating profit.
Krystal also lowered its 2026 forecast for combined research, development, selling and administrative expenses, excluding stock-based pay, to $155 million to $165 million. The August range was $175 million to $195 million.
Buybacks and the next growth products
The repurchase authorization permits up to $400 million of purchases. Chief Executive Officer Krish S. Krishnan said the company expects to buy opportunistically over the next two years and can fund its programs and international expansion while returning capital.
Krystal’s current revenue still comes from VYJUVEK. Progress in the studies will help determine whether it can build a broader commercial portfolio.
