How much of Entergy's earnings jump came from the weather?
The company raised its annual earnings floor. Its own weather estimates help explain the quarter, while borrowing and share sales finance expansion.

Entergy raised the lower end of its annual earnings target after a strong third quarter. Weather supplied a sizable part of the improvement, alongside higher electricity demand and returns on utility investment.
The power group earned $1.98 per share in the quarter ended September 30, 2026, up from $1.53 a year earlier. It now expects 2026 adjusted earnings of $4.35 to $4.45 per share. The previous range, maintained in July, was $4.25 to $4.45.
Weather supplied 18 cents of a 45-cent gain
Research by Ticker Byline shows that the increase in Entergy’s estimated weather benefit accounts for about 40% of its per-share earnings gain. The company put weather’s contribution at 24 cents per share this quarter, compared with 6 cents a year earlier.
Those are Entergy’s estimates of the effect of temperatures compared with normal conditions.
Demand also grew after adjusting for weather. Retail electricity sales rose 4.5% on that basis, including 4.9% industrial growth driven by data centers and primary metals customers. Rate changes and returns on utility projects under construction also helped earnings.
The financing costs are growing too
The utility business earned $1.079 billion, up from $810 million. Higher maintenance, interest and depreciation costs, the charges for using long-lived assets, absorbed part of the improvement.
At Parent & Other, the loss widened to $139 million from $117 million, mainly because of interest costs. More shares also spread earnings across a larger base as Entergy completed previously arranged share sales.
Quarterly reported and adjusted earnings were the same; the annual forecast uses the company’s adjusted measure.
Customer cash helps finance the buildout
Operating cash flow for the first nine months rose to $4.96 billion from $3.93 billion. A large part of the improvement came from customer advances: the cash-flow movement in current advances rose to $1.10 billion from $293 million.
Over the same period, the gross construction and capital expenditure line rose to $7.74 billion from $5.56 billion. Entergy also received $1.93 billion from common stock issuance.
Its Orange County Advanced Power Station is now operating. The Entergy company profile tracks the completed plant, other projects’ approval status and the balance between investment recovery, customer advances and financing costs.
